Best professions for Priest Holy, Disc and Shadow

Does Priest need to choose profession by spec?

Yes, especially because Shadow, Holy and Discipline live very different realities. The Priest's strong base in WotLK Classic usually includes Engineering, and then professions such as Jewelcrafting, Leatherworking and other stable options come into play, depending on the role. Wowhead's overview for Priest highlights Engineering and Jewelcrafting among the best professions in the class; Shadow also receives recommendations very close to this, and Holy appears in Wowhead guides with Engineering and Leatherworking as strong healer options.

In other words: Priest has a common core, but the weight of each profession changes depending on the function.

Holy Priest

Holy thinks a lot about throughput, flexibility, and group damage coverage. Wowhead's guide to Holy Priest recommends Engineering and cites Leatherworking as the best partner for a more serious healer vision.

Best duo for Holy

  • Engineering + Leatherworking
  • or Engineering + Jewelcrafting, if you want a more stable/flexible path

Why?

Holy values utility, throughput, and healer comfort. It’s less about “exploding windows” and more about delivering high consistency.

Discipline Priest

Disc is a technical, control and mitigation healer. Engineering works very well with this profile because it adds usefulness and scope for response. The second profession can follow a stable line, usually with Jewelcrafting or other strong crafting.

Best duo for Disc

  • Engineering + Jewelcrafting
  • or Engineering + Leatherworking, depending on the focus

Why?

Disc likes predictable value, but remains a healer that benefits a lot from an active tool.

Shadow Priest

Shadow comes closer to the DPS caster logic. Both Wowhead and Icy Veins place Engineering at the top of the pack and bring Tailoring/Jewelcrafting closer to the strong core of the spec.

Best duo for Shadow

  • Engineering + Tailoring
  • or Engineering + Jewelcrafting

Why?

Shadow makes great use of caster performance and also enjoys the active side of Engineering.

Priority differences by role

Holy

Prioritizes throughput, stability, and healer utility.

Disc

Prioritizes control, response and technical value.

Shadow

Prioritizes throughput, scaling and good fit with DPS caster gameplay.

Performance gain per spec

Holy

You earn more when the profession improves the actual healing routine.

Disc

You gain a lot when the profession helps with control and precise execution.

Shadow

Earn more with classic DPS caster pack.

Maintenance cost by choice

More “meta”

  • Engineering + strong crafting duo
  • better performance
  • more investment requirement

More comfortable

  • Jewelcrafting or stable crafting as a second profession
  • a little less glamour, more tranquility

Practical guide by objective

| Objective | Best duo | |---|---| | Holy PvE serious | Engineering + Leatherworking | | Serious PvE Disc | Engineering + Jewelcrafting | | Shadow PvE | Engineering + Tailoring | | Priest hybrid healer/DPS | Engineering + Jewelcrafting | | Less friction | Jewelcrafting + other stable crafting |

Minimum recommendation

  1. Engineering is the strongest anchor for Priest in WotLK
  2. Holy tends to like Leatherworking as a strong partner
  3. Disc fits very well with Jewelcrafting
  4. Shadow chats best with Tailoring or Jewelcrafting
  5. Don't choose the same pair for all three specs just because you're too lazy to think about the role

Priest is one of the classes in which a good profession needs to respect the role. When you do this, the choice becomes much easier.
