Does a solo Hunter need to choose a different profession than a raid Hunter?
In practice, yes. The purely competitive Hunter wants to maximize performance. The Hunter who mixes solo, farming and PvE needs a duo that keeps the account running without killing the main character's performance.
Since Hunter is already excellent for open world, farming, and autonomy, it makes sense to choose professions that reinforce this advantage rather than mindlessly copying the dual meta.
Duos with better balance between farm and performance
1. Mining + Engineering
This is the smartest duo for many real players.
Why it works:
- Mining helps with gold and transition
- Engineering keeps the Hunter strong in PvE
- you don't sacrifice as much performance as you would by going completely off the strong route
This is probably the best answer for those who want to play a lot solo and still perform well in a group.
2. Herbalism + Engineering
Good for those who prefer a more mobile collection route and want to use the Hunter to farm with clean movement.
3. Mining + Skinning
Best for those who want to farm and profit sooner, but are starting to lose more endgame performance compared to routes that maintain Engineering.
High return professions for solo play
Mining
Excellent for Hunter because it works well with mobility and open world routes.
Herbalism
Also very good in solo routine because of the light farm flow.
Skinning
Simple, direct and very practical if your routine already involves mob grinding.
Adjustments to maintain efficiency in PvE
If the Hunter is your main character, I would avoid a duo completely focused on economics. The ideal is to maintain at least one profession that talks about performance, and at this point Engineering remains the best anchor.
Choice errors that stop progress
1. Choosing two farming professions and then suffering in the endgame
2. Going pure meta and losing the Hunter's best advantage on the ground
3. Do not plan a leveling transition to 80
4. Thinking that efficient soloing and strong PvE are completely incompatible paths
Routine choice plan
You play more solo and farm
Mining + Herbalism or Mining + Skinning
You solo, but want to raid seriously
Mining + Engineering
You want balance between account efficiency and strong PvE
Engineering + Mining
Minimum recommendation
- if your Hunter does everything, Mining + Engineering is the best overall answer
- if the focus is gold and autonomy, you can go as a collection duo
- if the focus is serious PvE, Engineering should stay
- the best profession for a solo Hunter isn't just the one that gives the most gold — it's the one that doesn't slow you down when you join a group
