Why do buffs and debuffs decide so much?
Because many raids lose performance without realizing it. Not for bad execution, but for missing:
- stat buff
- damage debuff
- rod cover/AP/SP
- armor reduction
- utility that changes collective throughput
When the roof is crooked, the entire group performs below what it could.
Priority buffs/debuffs per archetype
Group buffs
Your raid wants to cover as many of the following as possible:
- main stats
- attack power / spell power
- rod
- mana sustain / relevant utility
- increased collective damage
Debuffs on target
You also want to ensure:
- vulnerability to physical or magical damage
- armor reduction
- other essential effects that increase the actual damage of the comp
The rule is simple: it is not enough to have strong classes. You need to make these classes talk.
How to ensure coverage with real comp
The real roster almost never wraps everything up perfectly. So the right question is: what buffs/debuffs can't I miss today?
From there:
- see what is already naturally covered
- identify what is missing
- adjust the comp with what exists
- accept some losses when the cost of forcing coverage is too high
What to adjust when a class is missing
If an important class is missing:
- compensate with another one that covers part of the problem
- rearrange the expectation of the meeting
- adjust cooldown and strategy
- don't pretend that the absence doesn't matter
Worse than missing a buff is missing a buff and acting as if nothing has changed.
Most frequent setup errors
- assemble comp and forget to review coverage
- count on a buff that the night's roster does not have
- ignore the debuff value on the target
- Sacrificing all stability to close a single buff
- not reviewing this before the pull
Coverage checklist before pull
- [ ] Are main group buffs covered?
- [ ] essential debuffs on the target have a clear source?
- [ ] Is there anything critical missing for the type of encounter?
- [ ] does the actual comp of the night require strategy adjustment?
- [ ] Did anyone in leadership actually review this?
Minimum recommendation
Your raid cannot forget:
- what buff/debuff is part of the comp
- What coverage changes collective performance
- which real roster requires adaptation
- review before pull avoids waste
Organized raid does not remember wipe buffs. Remember before the first engage.
