Engineering in Hunter is community exaggeration?
Not entirely. The Hunter guides in WotLK Classic put Engineering at the top for a very objective reason: it offers a very strong glove tinker, as well as extra utilities that speak very well to the class. Icy Veins even calls Engineering the best profession for Hunter and highlights Hyperspeed Accelerators as a central part of this.
So the short answer is: for competitive Hunter, it is almost always mandatory.
But “mandatory” depends on your level of demand.
Real benefits for Hunter
1. Lots of value in burst and pace
Hunter likes a clean window and good damage rate. Engineering helps exactly there.
2. Practical utility
It's not just numbers. The profession changes the feeling of the game.
3. Good fit in PvE and PvP
It's one of those rare professions that remains strong in both environments.
In which scenarios does it have the most impact
More serious raid
Here it is closer to “obligatory”.
Competitive PvP
It also weighs a lot, because Hunter benefits from any tool that improves pressure and repositioning.
Casual/Solo Dungeon
It's still good, but it's no longer true that without it the character “doesn't work”.
When other professions compete better
Other professions only compete better when:
- your focus is economics
- you are in the transition/leveling phase
- your goal is not to maximize performance
- the account asks for more comfort than min-max
Limits of choice in the real game
Engineering is very strong, but does not correct:
- poorly managed pet
- bad positioning
- weak rotation
- slow target swap
- wrong priority
It enhances a good player. Doesn't save bad execution.
For whom it is mandatory
Yes, practically mandatory
- Competitive raid hunter
- Serious PvP Hunter
- player who wants to get the most out of the character
No, not mandatory
- Casual Hunter -Hunter alt
- Hunter with a greater focus on farming/economy
- player who wants “strong enough”, not maximum possible
Minimum recommendation
- For competitive endgame, treat Engineering as the Hunter's default profession
- for casual, it's still great, but it's no longer a dramatic obligation
- if you don't extract the active side of the profession, the real value drops
- The mistake is thinking that she solves everything alone
Honest summary: for serious Hunter, yes, Engineering is almost mandatory. For the rest, it's just really good.
