Is tailoring still an automatic profession for Priest?
No longer universally. It's still very good, especially for Shadow Priest, but Priest is one of the classes where the response changes a lot depending on the spec.
The current WotLK Classic guides point different paths:
- Wowhead's general Priest hub highlights Engineering and Jewelcrafting as best general professions
- Holy Priest guide recommends Engineering + Leatherworking
- that of Discipline Priest also pushes Engineering + Leatherworking as a combination with the best overall benefit
- Shadow Priest places Engineering, Tailoring and Jewelcrafting among the best choices
So, Tailoring is still a great friend of Priest — but not for all specs in the same way.
The classic benefits of Tailoring for Priest
1. Combines naturally with cloth caster
This has always helped Tailoring seem like Priest's “natural” profession.
2. Still strong in throughput for Shadow
For Shadow Priest, Tailoring remains very easy to defend.
3. Maintains value without relying so much on gimmick
It delivers real performance without having to turn the character into an active button festival.
Where it remains superior
Shadow Priest
This is where Tailoring remains most comfortable and strongest as an identity. Shadow values the DPS caster package very well, so the profession still makes a lot of sense.
Priest DPS-focused
If the character is more focused on damage and less on pure healing, Tailoring gains space.
Comparison with other competitive professions
Versus Engineering
Engineering today is more central to Priest than Tailoring in the bigger picture. In Holy and Disc, she practically dominates serious conversation.
Versus Leatherworking
Leatherworking gained a lot of weight on healer Priest. Holy and Disc take advantage of this route very well.
Versus Jewelcrafting
Jewelcrafting comes in as the stable option, very easy to justify in hybrid setups.
In which specs does Tailoring pay off the most?
Pays off more
- Shadow Priest
Reasonably compensates
- Hybrid Priest that mixes damage and healer, depending on the second profession
Pays less
- Holy Priest
- Discipline Priest focused on serious raid performance
When is it worth changing strategies
It's worth thinking about another route when:
- your Priest is main healer
- the focus is serious raid
- you want to follow the most efficient patch line
- your spec extracts more from Engineering/Leatherworking/Jewelcrafting
It's not worth changing just because the community said so. It's worth changing when the new profession delivers more in its real role.
Minimum recommendation
- Tailoring continues to be excellent for Shadow Priest
- for Holy and Disc, it is no longer the top answer
- Engineering today weighs more on Priest as a class
- Leatherworking is very strong for healers
- It’s worth choosing based on spec, not nostalgia
Honest summary: Tailoring is still friends with Priest — but today she talks much better with Shadow than with Holy and Discipline.
