Punishments and appeals (ban appeal): clear rules and how to appeal correctly
Most common types of punishments and reasons
Azeroth Legacy applies punishments proportional to the infraction. Existing types:
Formal notice For minor first-time infractions — inappropriate behavior in chat, isolated offensive language, use of unintentional mechanics on a one-off basis.
Temporary silence Chat restriction for a defined period. Applied for recurring toxic behavior, spam, or verbal harassment.
Temporary suspension Access blocked for days or weeks. Moderate infractions confirmed, such as use of a one-off exploit or behavior detrimental to the experience of others.
Permanent ban Serious infractions: use of third-party software (hacks, bots), systematic exploits, account fraud, serious predatory behavior or repeat offenses after suspensions.
Rollback Reversal of illegitimately obtained items or progress — usually accompanies another punishment.
How the appeal process works
The ban appeal is the formal contestation mechanism. The standard process:
- Access the channel or ban appeal form — usually on Discord or the server website
- Inform your nickname and the punishment received — be specific
- Explain your version of the facts — without aggressiveness, clearly
- Attach evidence — screenshots, logs, technical context
- Wait for the response deadline — respect the analysis time without sending multiple appeals
The appeal is reviewed by a different member than the one who administered the punishment to ensure impartiality.
What to submit to increase the chance of a fair review
Successful appeals usually have:
- Objective description of what happened from your point of view
- Technical evidence — if the ban came from a false positive from the anti-cheat, lag logs, error prints or video of the behavior help
- Clean history — if this is your first infraction and you have a positive history on the server, mention
- Acknowledgment — if there was a mistake on your part, honestly admitting it has more weight than denying everything
Errors that invalidate a ban appeal
- Sending multiple appeals for the same case — this does not speed it up, it can delay it
- Aggressive tone or threats — appeals with hostility are closed more quickly and with less sympathy
- Lying about what happened when there are logs — server logs are accurate; contradicting them without solid evidence undermines credibility
- Not responding when the team asks for additional information — the appeal remains idle and can be closed due to inactivity
- Use an alternative account while the ban is under review — this constitutes evasion of punishment and can make the ban permanent
Good practices to avoid recurrence
After returning from a punishment:
- Read the full regulation — many repeat offenses come from ignorance of specific rules
- Avoid any gray zone that led to the previous punishment
- If you are unsure whether something is permitted, ask before doing it
- Maintain positive chat behavior — history of good conduct counts in future assessments
- Report other offenders rather than "retaliate" — acting on your own leads to new violations
