The most common movement mistakes made by Warlock players

The most common movement mistakes made by Warlock players

•Classes•Brendo Arruda

Why does movement weigh so much on Warlock?

Because Warlock in WotLK lives a lot from:

  • uptime
  • DoTs
  • long cast
  • pet well controlled
  • minimal change between running and stopping

Affliction, Demonology and Destruction can play in different ways, but they all suffer when the player turns the fight into a back-and-forth without discretion. In Warlock, bad movement almost always turns into:

  • DoT falling
  • cast canceled
  • pet out of position
  • wasted offensive window
  • feeling of “strangely low” DPS

Most frequent positioning errors

1. Walking more than the mechanics really ask for

A lot of damage loss comes from “walking for safety” without real need.

2. Running after the mechanics have already arrived

This makes you cancel cast, mess up priority and even reposition poorly.

3. Playing too far from the useful point

Warlock doesn't want to be left in chaos, but he also doesn't want to play so out of the fight that each adjustment costs an extra three seconds.

4. Forgetting the pet

Pet poorly positioned or changing the wrong target also counts for its movement.

5. Move without return plan

You leave the place, sort out the mechanics and don't know where to go back. The fight becomes a sequence of corrections.

How to move without breaking rotation

The idea is not to “not walk”. It's walking with intention.

Rule of thumb

  1. finish the cast that still fits
  2. move just enough
  3. Reset priority as soon as it stops
  4. Don't try to fix everything at once

Which helps a lot

  • renew DoT or use shorter action when you already know you are going to move
  • reposition early instead of rushing out late
  • return to the same reference point whenever possible

Strong warlock on the move is not what “walks well”. It's what you lose little when you need to walk.

Reading mechanics to anticipate displacement

This is the part that separates the most clean Warlock from the suffered Warlock.

Before the fight

Ask:

  • when the mechanics force me to leave?
  • which side is safer?
  • at what point can I continue to be useful even if I reposition?

During the fight

Try to understand:

  • has the next mechanic already been announced?
  • Is there still room for one more cast?
  • can I move in a short diagonal instead of running far?

The best moving DPS is almost always born from anticipation, not heroic reflex.

Camera and interface adjustments for awareness

Camera

  • more open
  • angle that shows the floor and the boss at the same time
  • no zoom so tight that you only see your character

Interface

  • visible timers
  • Easy to monitor DoTs
  • pet under clear control
  • enough alertness to not depend on “realizing it right away”

The worst Warlock on the move is the one who plays looking at the bar and discovers the mechanics when it is already up.

Practical training to reduce losses

Training 1

In 3 fights, pay attention only to:

  • how many casts did you cancel out of nervousness
  • how many times did you walk more than necessary

Training 2

In 3 more fights:

  • set a return point after each mechanic
  • always reposition to that point

Training 3

Observe the pet:

  • was he still useful?
  • stayed out?
  • lost target time because of you?

This simple training already reduces a lot of invisible loss.

Minimum recommendation

To lose less DPS on Warlock movement:

  1. move less
  2. anticipate more
  3. treat the pet as part of your position
  4. use camera and interface to gain awareness
  5. always return to a useful point in the fight

Warlock does not need to become a statue. You need to stop running without a plan.
