Enhancement looks frantic because it really is

Enhancement in WotLK is not the spec for those who like to always press the same sequence in a predictable loop. It works more like a living priority: short cooldown, proc, swing, weapon imbue maintenance, totem, Maelstrom Weapon and quick decision.

It is one of the specs in which “knowing the theory” is not enough. You need to be able to turn theory into execution without getting stuck between GCDs.

What makes Enhancement work

Good Enhancement brings together five things at the same time:

• right priority instead of fixed rotation
• correct weapons and imbues
• clean maintenance of totems
• efficient use of Maelstrom Weapon
• fast proc reading and burst window

When one of these layers fails, DPS drops quickly.

Stat priority and why each stat matters

Enhancement doesn't revolve around a single saving stat. The strength of the spec comes from the right combination.

1. Hit and Expertise

Before any talk of “scaling”, you need to stop missing hits, hybrid spells and important attacks.

2. Attack Power

AP is a stable base of damage for the entire spec.

3. Agility / Crit

Crit and useful agilities come in very well because the spec converts physical pressure and procs well.

4. Rod

Haste improves rhythm, swings and kit synergies. In Enhancement, speeding up the machine is often valuable.

5. Armor Penetration

ArP exists and grows with gear, but it should not be treated as a blind priority from an early age. In many stages, the player forces ArP before having enough base and makes the set worse.

Gems and enchants per slot

Gems

The safest logic for Enhancement is:

• gem for the main stat of your gear stage
• respect caps before stacking pure damage
• don’t sacrifice consistency for a “pretty” number on paper

Enchantments

Enhancement suffers a lot when you neglect slot:

• wrong or poorly enchanted weapon
• parts without AP/agility enchant
• shoulder/head without reputation
• improvisation in boots, brace and gloves

It's detail spec. Every bad slot adds up.

Basic rotation: think priority, not track

Enhancement does not want a static “12345”. He wants decision order.

In practice, the priority revolves around:

• maintain correct buffs/imbues
• use Stormstrike at the right time
• fit Lava Lash
• enjoy Maelstrom Weapon without waste
• fill with shocks and attacks depending on the state of the rotation

Those who try to memorize a fixed sequence tend to lose DPS because the spec changes state all the time.

Points of attention that most reduce performance

Imbue wrong

This is an input error. Shaman Enhancement without correct weapon setup already starts behind.

Totem abandoned and forgotten

Totem out of reach, wrong for the comp or simply missing is a double loss: yours and the raid's.

Misused Maelstrom Weapon

Holding too much or underspending greatly reduces the value of the kit.

GCD lost between priorities

Enhancement punished for hesitation. If you think slowly, the spec will charge you.

ArP too soon

Many people force “high phase” gearing too soon and create an incoherent character.

Entry gear: what you need before the raid

To enter Enhancement without looking dismounted:

• basic caps forwarded
• two coherent weapons for the spec
• complete enchants
• right gems, not improvised
• organized totem/imbue/macros

Enhancement does not require BiS to function, but does require correct assembly.
