Getting started in Azeroth Legacy: what to do right after entering the game

•Server•Brendo Arruda

You're in — now what?

Logged in for the first time, got to the character selection screen and don't know where to start? It's normal. WotLK doesn't explain much on its own, especially for those who have never played WoW. This guide covers the first steps in logical order.

Step 1: Choose your class before creating the character

The character creation screen will ask for race and class. The most important choice is the class — it defines how you will play, what skills you will use and what role you will play in the group.

Race affects little in the game (small attribute bonuses and some racial abilities) — choose the look you like best. There's no point in choosing a race.

Class is what matters. If you still don't know which one to choose, read the postWhat is the best class to start with in WotLKbefore creating the character.

Faction:

  • Alliance: Stormwind, Ironforge, Darnassus — more "heroic" aesthetic
  • Horde: Orgrimmar, Undercity, Thunder Bluff — more "brutal" aesthetic

Alliance and Horde cannot communicate in chat or play together (except in specific raids). Choose where your friends are, if you have them.

Step 2: Understanding the basic interface

When you first enter the game, you will see:

Action bar (bottom): where your skills are located. Drag skills from the spell window (keyP) for the bar slots.

Minimap (top right): shows your current position. Click the arrows to rotate the camera. The yellow dot is you; Smaller yellow dots are NPCs with quests.

Portraits (top left): your health (red) and mana/energy/rage (blue/yellow/orange) — depending on your class.

Bag slots (bottom right): your backpacks. Click to open the inventory.

Chat (bottom left): where everything appears — general chat, combat, errors, loot.

Most important keys to know from the beginning:

| Key | Function | |---|---| | B| Open all bags | | P| Open list of spells/abilities | | C| Open character sheet (attributes and gear) | | M| Open the zone map | | N| Open the talent panel | | I| Open Dungeon Finder (LFD) | | K| Opens the profession skills panel | | Esc| System menu (settings, exit) |

Step 3: How the chat works

WoW chat has different channels for each type of communication. Understanding this avoids a lot of confusion.

Types of chat and how to use it:

| Channel | Command | For those who see | |---|---|---| | Say |/say ou /s| Players near you | | Group |/party ou /p| Only your current group | | Raid |/raid ou /ra| Only the current raid | | Guild |/g| Members of your guild | | Trade |/2| Entire City (Shattrath/Dalaran) | | Whisper |/w NomeJogador mensagem| Just that person | | Reply |/r| Respond to the last whisper received |

General channel (/1): active in leveling zones, where most players speak.

Trade Channel (/2): active in Dalaran (the main city of WotLK). This is where the purchase/sale of items and group searches for raids are announced.

Tip: if you want to talk to someone and don't know the channel, use/sayfor those who are near or/w NomeJogadorto anyone on the server.

Step 4: Quests — how to pick up and deliver

Quests are identified by a yellow exclamation mark (!) above the NPCs. Click on the NPC to accept. After completing the objectives, return to the same NPC (now with?yellow) to deliver.

Basic quest tips:

  • Read the quest text at least once — many indicate where to go on the map
  • Open the map (M) and see if a shaded area appears indicating where to complete
  • Prioritize quests that are in the same area — don't keep coming back all the time
  • You don't need to complete all the quests in a zone before leaving — progress according to the level

Quest XP vs grind: in WotLK, quests give much more XP than killing mobs randomly. Always prioritize doing quests.

Step 5: Talents — don’t spend wrong from the start

From level 10 onwards, you start receiving talent points at each level. The talent window opens withN.

The most common beginner mistake: randomly spending points on different trees without having a coherent build.

The right thing to do: choose one of your class's three specializations and spend all your points on it. Search for a basic build for your level (a search for "WotLK [your class] leveling build" will give you a guide).

If you get the talents wrong, you can reset them by paying gold to any class master. At first the value is low — don't worry too much, but try to follow guidance from an early age.

Step 6: Professions — choose right at the beginning

Professions are learned from Profession NPCs in cities. You can have 2 primary professions and as many secondary professions as you want (Cooking, Fishing, First Aid).

Why choose Logo: Professions that involve gathering (Mining, Herbalism, Skinning) are learned while you explore the world. The sooner you start, the more you accumulate during leveling without having to return later.

Recommended combinations for beginners:

  • Mining + Blacksmithing — for Warriors, Paladins, Death Knights
  • Herbalism + Alchemy — for any class, excellent for gold
  • Skinning + Leatherworking — for Hunters, Rogues, Druids, Shamans
  • Mining + Engineering — great for endgame, more expensive to climb

If you don't know what to choose, take Herbalism + Mining — they are the ones that generate the most gold during leveling and can be exchanged later.

Step 7: The economy system — copper, silver and gold

Game currency works like this:

100 copper = 1 silver
100 silver = 1 gold

At the beginning you will have a lot of copper and little gold. This is normal. Don't spend gold for nothing in the first few hours — you'll need it for skill training, riding and professions.

What to spend gold at the beginning:

  • New skills training with your Classe Trainer (in the city)
  • Mount when reaching level 20 (first mount) and 40 (fastest mount)
  • Profession

What NOT to spend:

  • Equipment at the Auction House — what drops from quests and mobs is enough for leveling
  • Lower level spells — always train the latest version of the skill

Step 8: The mount — your priority at level 20

Walking in WoW is slow. When you reach level 20, release your first mount:

  1. Go to a Riding Trainer NPC in your race's city
  2. Learn Apprentice Riding (ride at 60% speed)
  3. Buy a basic mount from the vendor next door

When you reach level 40, learn Journeyman Riding (100% speed) — this improvement is huge.

Cost: a few hundred silver/gold. Save money from the beginning so you don't run out of gold when you reach level 20.

Step 9: Useful commands for everyday life

In addition to chat, there are slash commands (typed in chat) that you will use constantly:

| Command | Function | |---|---| | /who NomeJogador| See if someone is online and where they are | | /invite NomeJogador| Invite to your group | | /leave| Leave current group | | /afk| Mark as absent (AFK) | | /dnd| Activate "do not disturb" (no whispers) | | /played| Shows total time played on the character | | /target NomeJogador| Select that player or mob | | /dance| Your character dances | | /help| List all available commands |

Step 10: How to ask for help on the server

Via website (tickets): access the Azeroth Legacy panel, open a ticket describing the problem. The support team responds and you can track the progress online.

Via Discord: join the Azeroth Legacy server (link on website) — there are specific channels for game questions, technical problems and general support.

Via in-game chat: use/1(general area chat) to ask simple questions. The community tends to help new players.

Summary: first minutes checklist

  • [ ] Chose class based on how you want to play (not just the look)
  • [ ] Understands the basic keys (B, P, C, M, N, I)
  • [ ] Knows how to use chat and channels (/s, /p, /g, /2, /w)
  • [ ] You are doing quests, not just grinding mobs
  • [ ] Chose professions and started leveling up
  • [ ] You are saving gold for the mount at level 20
  • [ ] Know where to ask for help (Discord, ticket, chat)

The beginning may seem confusing, but after 1–2 hours of gameplay everything starts to make sense naturally. Don't try to learn everything at once — play, explore, and refer to this guide when you need it.
