Warlords ends when Gul'dan takes command of the chaos
If the first half of Warlords revolves around the Iron Horde, the final stretch makes it clear that the conflict would never stop there. The character who turns the expansion into a bridge to Legion is Gul'dan.
The alternate Gul'dan
The Gul'dan of Warlords is not the same as the one from the main timeline, but he carries the same essence:
- extreme ambition
- a hunger for fel power
- a willingness to serve the Legion
- the ability to corrode any structure from within
How he infiltrates and breaks the Iron Horde
The Iron Horde was created to avoid the fate of the old, corrupted Horde. But Gul'dan still exists as a force of demonic seduction. Once he starts operating at the heart of the conflict, he does exactly what he has always done best:
- offers shortcuts to power
- exploits weaknesses
- poisons loyalties
- turns resistance into servitude
Hellfire Citadel
Hellfire Citadel works as the last great bastion of Draenor's armies and as the stage for the Iron Horde's final shift into something much closer to the Legion's war machine.
Archimonde and the gift handed to Gul'dan
At the end of the raid, Archimonde falls. But his final act is crucial: he sends Gul'dan to the main-timeline Azeroth, making sure the Legion still has the perfect agent to reopen the conflict on another front.
Final summary
The alternate Gul'dan survives on Draenor and acts as the Burning Legion's perfect agent inside the Iron Horde crisis. He infiltrates, corrupts and pushes the expansion beyond Garrosh's military project. Hellfire Citadel represents the last great bastion of the conflict on Draenor and the moment when fel takes back control of the story. When Archimonde falls, he still manages to secure the bigger plan by sending Gul'dan to Azeroth, directly setting up the reopening of the Tomb of Sargeras and the start of Legion.
That is why this phase matters so much: it shows that the real bridge between Warlords and Legion is not a raid or a portal — it is Gul'dan, the perfect agent of collapse.
