The biggest problem with copying build
It's not copying. It's copying without understanding:
- phase
- content -gear
- objective
- the reason behind the points
A good build for ICC 25 Heroic can be terrible for a fresh 80. An arena build can be terrible in BG. A log top build may depend on gear, comp and execution that you don't already have.
How to understand the context and objective of the build
Before using any build, ask:
- is this for PvE or PvP?
- Is it for raid, dungeon, BG or arena?
- Is it a progression build or a parse build?
- What phase was it made for?
- what type of gear does this build require?
If you don't answer this, you are already copying wrong.
Signs of an outdated build
1. Another phase guide
2. Priority of stat that doesn't talk to your moment
3. Talents that only make sense with very advanced gear
4. Build that doesn't match the content you play
5. Isolated recommendation without explanation
Adjustments for gear and current content
Initial gear
needs a more stable build and less dependent on ideal setup
Endgame
allows for more aggressive or refined builds
Dungeon
ask for a reading
Raid
ask for another
PvP
changes everything again
That's why a good build almost always comes with context — not just a talent string.
Frequent copy-paste errors
1. Copy final tree into fresh character
2. Ignore glyphs, rotation and stats
3. Not adapting to your content
4. Choose highlight video build
5. Never review whether the build still makes sense
Checklist before applying respec
- Is this build from the right phase?
- Was it made for my content?
- Can my gear handle this choice?
- Do I understand what each important point does?
- Is there a more stable version for me at the moment?
Minimum recommendation
Reading build the right way is:
- understand the context
- know the objective
- adapt to your gear
- review whether it still makes sense
Copying build is not wrong. It's wrong to turn someone else's talent into prison for a character who is experiencing another phase of the game.
