Route of the first 24 hours in Azeroth Legacy: what to do first

Route of the first 24 hours in Azeroth Legacy: what to do first

•Beginner•Brendo Arruda

The problem of the first hours

Arriving on a WotLK server without direction usually results in one of two things: you spend hours doing random quests with no real progression, or you stay in the city without knowing what to prioritize.

The first 24 hours (even if they are spread across sessions) set the pace for your progression. Whoever starts with a clear route arrives at the endgame with more gold, more knowledge of the class and less wasted time.

Before you start: define your goal

The correct route depends on what you want from the server:

  • Get to 80 quickly and get better → total focus on efficient leveling
  • Explore and learn about the story → leveling with quests organized by zone
  • Play in groups from an early age → focus on dungeons from level 15–20

This guide covers the best overall return route: endgame-based functional leveling.

Block 1 — In the first 30 minutes

What to do before leaving the starting zone

  1. Don't skip the starting zone — even though it may seem slow, the first 10 levels have a good density of chained quests
  2. Identify your main skills — don't wait for level 80 to learn your class; understand the basic skeleton now
  3. Activate the XP bonus if available on the server — check if there is a resting bonus item or active event
  4. Configure Questie — without quest icons on the map, leveling is 30% slower

What to ignore now

  • Craft professions (Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, etc.) — only cost gold and time in leveling
  • Buy mounts before the necessary level — not worth the initial gold
  • Go to the big city before levels 15–20 — there is nothing to do there yet

Block 2 — Level 1 to 20

Priority: chained questing in the starting zone

WotLK has well-constructed starting zones with sequential quests. Follow the natural flow without jumping to other regions.

Alliance:

  • Humans → Elwynn Forest → Westfall
  • Night Elves → Teldrassil → Darkshore
  • Dwarves/Gnomes → Dun Morogh → Loch Modan

Horde:

  • Orcs/Trolls → Durotar → The Barrens (north)
  • Undead → Tirisfal Glades → Silverpine Forest
  • Tauren → Mulgore → The Barrens (south)
  • Blood Elves → Eversong Woods → Ghostlands

Block goal

Reach levels 18–22 with:

  • An active and ongoing gathering profession (Mining, Herbalism or Skinning)
  • Enough Gold to train skills without spending it all at once
  • Basic understanding of your damage or support rotation

Why collection profession now?

Collection increases along with leveling at no extra time cost. You go through the resources anyway. Blacksmithing at level 20 will drain gold that you will need for something else.

Block 3 — Level 20 to 40

Dungeons or questing?

It depends on what you prefer, but the objective answer is: questing has better XP/hour up to level 40 if you have a good route. Dungeons pay off more when you have a fixed group or want to learn the class in a group.

| Level | Alliance | Horde | |---|---|---| | 20–25 | Redridge, Duskwood | The Barrens, Stonetalon | | 25–30 | Duskwood, Wetlands | Hillsbrad Foothills | | 30–35 | Stranglethorn Vale (north) | Arathi Highlands | | 35–40 | Stranglethorn Vale (south) | Stranglethorn Vale, Badlands |

What to do when you reach level 40

  • Mount purchase: top priority. The 60% speed mount completely changes travel time
  • Review your skills in the trainer — a lot of people forget to train new skill ranks

Block 4 — Level 40 to 58

This is the longest part of the leveling, but it has good flow if you follow areas with a high density of quests.

| Level | Zone | |---|---| | 40–45 | Feralas, Tanaris | | 45–50 | Un'Goro Crater | | 50–55 | Felwood, Western Plaguelands | | 55–58 | Eastern Plaguelands, Winterspring |

Tip for this block

From 55 onwards, you can start doing Hellfire Peninsula even before 58. Outland's quest XP is very high and speeds up the final stretch.

Block 5 — Level 58 to 80 (overview)

Outland (58–68) and Northrend (68–80) have much more direct routing because the quests are chained by zone.

Outland (58–68)

  1. Hellfire Peninsula (58–61)
  2. Zangarmarsh (61–63)
  3. Terokkar Forest (63–65)
  4. Nagrand (65–67)
  5. Blade's Edge Mountains or Netherstorm (67–68)

Northrend (68–80)

  1. Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord (68–72) — choose one
  2. Dragonblight (72–74)
  3. Grizzly Hills (74–76)
  4. Zul'Drak (76–77)
  5. Storm Peaks or Icecrown (77–80)

What to do when you reach level 80

The first few hours in the endgame have their own route, but the basics are:

  1. Buy epic mount 280% (or get quick mount if you already have it)
  2. Identify your entry gear tier: Normal Dungeons → Heroic Dungeons → Naxxramas
  3. Start doing reputation dailies for parallel gear and gold
  4. Join a guild or LFG to start heroics

First day route summary

| Block | Priority | |---|---| | 0–30 min | Set up Questie, learn base skills, pick up gathering profession | | Level 1–20 | Questing in the starting zone, without skipping regions | | Level 20–40 | Questing with zone route, prioritize mount no 40 | | Level 40–58 | Maintain zone route, enter Outland at 55–58 | | Level 58–80 | Outland → Northrend, non-stop at old-level zones |

Following this structure, you reach the endgame with reasonable gold, a maximum collection profession and an understood class — without having to retrace your steps.
