Route to BiS: pre-raid, heroics/Titan Rune, emblems, entry raids, final raids, BiS per phase and final BiS
The biggest mistake of those who think about BiS too soon
Many people treat BiS as if it were a starting point. It is not. BiS is the end of a route.
When you try to build a character looking only at the last list, you usually make one of these mistakes:
- ignores important stage upgrades
- hangs waiting for perfect drop
- spends bad badges
- enters too early into content that does not yet support
- waste weeks with an “almost good” character instead of really strong for the current stage
The right progression is in stages.
Step 1 — Pre-raid
Here the mission is simple:
- close spec caps and base
- secure 3–5 large pieces
- pick up 1–2 useful trinkets
- enter group content without relying on carry
Pre-raid is the moment when the character stops being fresh 80 and becomes a functional piece.
Signs that you are not out of pre-raid yet
- gun too far back
- trinket too weak
- crooked caps
- non-existent tier when the stage asks for it
- build good on paper, bad in real game
Step 2 — Heroics and Titan Rune
Heroics and Titan Rune are used for:
- fix difficult slots
- increase consistency
- get stronger dungeon loot
- speed up intermediate badges and upgrades
When to advance to Titan Rune
When your character:
- No longer suffers as much in common heroics
- has a minimally ready pre-raid base
- Can play the role without chaos
- enter to contribute, not just survive
Stage 3 — Emblems as a route accelerator
Badges go to:
- close tier
- get important sigil/relic/libram/totem
- fix slot that doesn't fall
- accelerate large high impact part
When to move forward
When you stop spending badges on impulse and start spending because of a real bottleneck.
Step 4 — Inbound Raids
Inbound raids are used for:
- consolidate the character
- pick up real group upgrades
- start closing strong tier bonuses
- test if your build already works in raid progression
You advance to this phase when:
- your pre-raid is actually assembled
- your character has 1–2 good trinkets
- weapon or equivalent slot has already been prioritized
- You can play the content consistently
Stage 5 — Final Raids and BiS per phase
Here the progression changes:
- the list per phase starts to matter much more
- the tier gains more weight
- the competition between off-piece and set becomes more serious
- specific drops start to change the spec a lot
The big difference between “BiS per phase” and “final BiS” is this:
BiS per phase
It is the best realistic setup for the current server content.
Final BiS
It's the end of the line, considering the highest stage and the best possible list.
Many people should pursue BiS per phase more and less the final BiS at the beginning.
When advancing from each phase to the next
From pre-raid to heroics/Titan Rune
When the character already has a functional basis.
From heroics/Titan Rune to inbound raids
When your set no longer looks like an “emergency patch”.
From entry raids to end raids
When your character already has:
- multiple consolidated slots
- strong tier or off-pieces
- build really taking advantage of gear
From the progression phase to the final BiS
When the focus stops being fixing bottlenecks and becomes polishing details.
How to organize a weekly evolution routine
Simple model
- 1 block for content that guarantees upgrade
- 1 block for emblems
- 1 block for higher ceiling content
- 1 block to review the character's real bottleneck
Weekly question
“What accelerates my character the most now?”
If the answer is not clear, you are farming on automatic.
Errors that delay arrival at BiS
1. Skip steps
2. Stuck waiting for perfect part
3. Spending badges too early in the wrong slot
4. Ignore BiS by phase
5. Entering the final raid with a poorly assembled base
6. Not adapting the route to what actually dropped for you
Complete route checklist until endgame
Before saying that you are following a good route, confirm:
- does my pre-raid really exist?
- Does my character already use Heroics/Titan Rune?
- Are my badges going to real bottlenecks?
- Am I already thinking about BiS per phase, not just the final BiS?
- Do my incoming raids still give important upgrades?
- Is the next step clear?
- Am I farming with intention or just repeating content?
Minimum recommendation
To get to BiS the right way:
- mount the pre-raid
- use heroics/Titan Rune to stabilize the character
- treat emblems as a strategic accelerator
- use incoming raids to consolidate the build
- chase BiS per phase before the final BiS
- adapt the route to what really fell to you
The quickest way to get to BiS is to stop playing as if you were already in it.
