WotLK Glossary: terms every player needs to understand

WotLK Glossary: terms every player needs to understand

•Evergreen•Brendo Arruda

Why is the glossary so important?

Because a lot of people don't crash the game. Language hangs.

When the player doesn't understand:

  • PvE terms
  • PvP terms
  • stats names
  • economics abbreviations he reads less, asks less and makes less use of the guides.

1. Essential terms of PvE, PvP and economy

PvE

What it is for: Understand group, function and progression.

Examples: -pull

  • aggro
  • uptime
  • key -wipe
  • raid ready
  • pre-raid
  • target loot

PvP

What it is for: Read strategy and calls faster.

Examples:

  • peel
  • burst
  • kite
  • LOS
  • swap
  • CC -pressure

Economy

What it is for: Better navigation through the server routine.

Examples:

  • farm
  • flip -margin
  • sink
  • gather -craft

2. Short, to-the-point definitions by topic

A good glossary avoids huge text. Each term must have:

  • short definition
  • practical context
  • actual use

Example: Aggro — enemy attention/threat on a target.
Peel — action to relieve pressure on an ally.
Uptime — time in which your action or effect became usefully active.

3. Advanced terms that create common confusion

Some terms need extra care:

  • soft cap
  • hard cap
  • snapshot
  • throughput -sustain
  • window time
  • macrogame
  • victory condition

These are the ones that generate the most misreading when they appear without explanation.

4. Continuous Glossary Update Format

The ideal is to keep the glossary as a living piece:

  • update when a new tab family grows
  • add recurring terms in comments or questions
  • separate by theme in addition to alphabetical order

5. Alphabetical/thematic organization checklist

  • [ ] separate PvE terms
  • [ ] separate PvP terms
  • [ ] separate economics terms
  • [ ] most confusing technical terms highlighted
  • [ ] short and consultable language

What to avoid

  • definition too long
  • only alphabetical glossary and nothing thematic
  • terms without practical example
  • transform glossary into theoretical article

Minimum recommendation

A good glossary is what:

  1. Reduces friction
  2. helps with reading other posts
  3. grows with the website
  4. remains quick to consult

If the player understands the language, he learns the game much faster.
