What makes AV so different?
Alterac Valley mix:
- goal race
- mass combat
- honor/farm
- defense of structures
- victory by general
It's a map where a lot of people enter to “farm”, but even farming becomes better when you understand the objective.
Routes to farm efficiently
Farm efficient in AV usually comes from:
- follow the right main stream
- avoid too much pointless fights
- convert attendance into real progress
- don't get lost between the middle, tower and cemetery
You don't have to choose between farming and map intelligence. The two help each other.
Strategies to increase win rate
- Know which side of the map really matters
- travel in a group when necessary
- Don't turn every encounter into an endless fight
- Understand the value of tower, graveyard and time
- understand when victory requires acceleration and when it requires a response
Balance between objective and combat
In AV, combat is only really worth it when:
- protects advance
- secure essential defense
- clears relevant path
- prevents critical enemy progression
Fighting for the sake of fighting only delays the match.
Mass coordination errors
- team spread out too much
- people fighting outside the flow
- ignore objective for kill
- not understanding when to defend
- thinking that AV is just a blind race to the boss
AV execution checklist
- [ ] do I understand the victory condition of the match?
- [ ] am I following the right flow for my goal?
- [ ] does my fight protect advancement or defense?
- [ ] Am I helping the team win or just keeping busy?
- [ ] are farm and victory going together or am I sabotaging them both?
Minimum recommendation
To play Alterac Valley better:
- learn the map
- treat objective as part of the farm
- fight only when it changes the game
- use the crowd to your advantage, not against the team itself
AV becomes much more profitable when it stops being chaos and becomes route.
