Check Points (CP) vs Donation Points (DP): Definitive guide to progress without spending anything
What are CP and DP
Azeroth Legacy operates with two parallel currencies, each with a different origin and purpose. Mixing them up or not understanding the difference is the most common mistake of new players who arrive with doubts about “how to progress without spending”.
Check Points (CP) are coins earned by in-game activity. Daily login, quests, dungeons, raids, event participation — any gameplay action can generate CP. They are the currency of merit progression.
Donation Points (DP) are currencies associated with financial support to the server. The origin is different, the use tends to be different, and the logic of how to spend each one is also different.
Beta: Coin system available to everyone in the beta. After launch, advanced features like bonuses and CP multipliers will be exclusive to VIP players.
Practical difference between CP and SD
| | Check Points (CP) | Donation Points (DP) | |---|---|---| | How do you get | Playing — login, quests, dungeons, events | Server support | | Pace of accumulation | Constant, depends on activity | Punctual | | What you buy | Cosmetics, convenience, affordable progression items | Exclusive items, access to premium content | | Recoverable if spent wrong | Yes, with playing time | Harder to replace |
The most important distinction: CP is renewable. Spending wrong CP costs time, not real money. Spending wrong DP has different weight because replenishment depends on server support.
How each currency impacts progression
CP on progression
CP allows players without financial expense to access a range of real rewards. Progression via CP is not just cosmetic — there are convenience items and gameplay facilitators that have a practical impact on the daily experience.
Rhythm is the limiting factor. Player who maximizes CP sources grows faster. Casual player accumulates slower but still progresses.
SD on progression
DP usually opens access to items or content that CP does not cover — store exclusives, early access, premium cosmetics. The line between DP as convenience and DP as pay-to-win is defined by the server rules. In Azeroth Legacy, the model explicitly prevents DP from giving power advantage in PvP or PvE — always confirm the current rules on the official page.
Strategies for prioritizing resource use
For CP — prioritize by impact on current progression
The CP store has both convenience items and progression items. Before you spend, identify what stage of the game you are at:
Fresh 80 / Préraid:
- Items that accelerate initial gear have more value than cosmetics at this time
- Conveniences that save travel or farm time are high value
Active Raider:
- Consumables or raid facilitators have immediate return
- Cosmetics have value when progression is already stabilized
PvP Player:
- Items that assist in the PvP gear route without creating a prohibited advantage
- Check if there is a difference in access to items between players with and without spent CP
For DP — think permanence
DP has a greater weight because it is less renewable. The correct logic is: will the item I want with DP have value for more than a week? Cosmetics that you will use for months has more value than one-off convenience.
Common system interpretation errors
1. Thinking you need PD to progress
If the system is well designed — and Azeroth Legacy positions itself like this — CP covers the entire gameplay progression. DP is an additional layer, not mandatory.
2. Spend CP on cosmetic items before having functional gear
Beautiful monument before having enchants in raid gear is the wrong order of priority. CP spent on cosmetics before progression is stable is a resource that will be missed later.
3. Accumulate CP without spending it waiting for the "perfect item"
CP stopped does not yield. If there is an item that improves your experience now, spend it. CP renewal via gameplay is constant — saving indefinitely rarely pays off.
4. Not checking the store regularly
The CP store may have item rotation. Item that was not available last week may appear now. Checking periodically avoids missing item window that made sense to you.
5. Confusing DP bonuses with mandatory items
DP bonuses for server supporters are not mandatory for normal progression. Treating it as an obligation creates unnecessary pressure.
Decision checklist to spend better
Before spending CP
- [ ] Does the item improve something you use now or is it a future convenience?
- [ ] Is there an item with the greatest impact in the store that would be best prioritized?
- [ ] Do you have enough CP for the item without completely resetting the reserve?
Before spending DP
- [ ] Does the item have long-term use value (months, not days)?
- [ ] Is there no equivalent item accessible via CP?
- [ ] Is it an item you genuinely want, not buying out of FOMO?
Monthly review
- [ ] Are your CP sources maximized for the time you play?
- [ ] Did you spend CP on items you actually used?
- [ ] Is the no-cost progression model working for you?
