What defines real progress for a healer?
Healer progresses when he improves on three fronts: -gear
- reading of the fight
- execution efficiency
Just increasing HPS is not enough. Strong healer is what:
- spends mana well
- save the right fight
- dies little
- uses cooldown judiciously
- keeps the group stable
Gear and execution goals per stage
Fresh / group entry
- right build
- right glyphs
- minimum mana sustain
- functional position
- organized cooldowns
Middle of the progression
- better throughput
- less silly overheal
- cleaner reading of damage
- improvement of strong trinkets/weapon/slots
Endgame
- rod/throughput refinement
- much more stable execution
- coverage adjusted to the encounter
- almost automatic mana control
Priority of weekly improvements
- weapon and trinkets
- missing enchants/gems
- tier or strong off-piece
- positioning and fight reading
- cooldowns and response
Healer grows a lot when he combines physical upgrades with behavioral adjustments.
Practical metrics for self-assessment
Instead of just looking at raw numbers, review:
- did I run out of mana early?
- did I die by position?
- did I use cooldown in useful window?
- Did I over-heal out of nervousness?
- did I manage to stabilize the group without collapsing?
These answers tell you more about your progress than the meter alone.
Common Healer Progression Mistakes
- gear speed without sustain
- depend only on reaction
- spending cooldown too soon
- not reviewing positioning
- trying to cure everything without prioritizing
