Holy: how to build your gear without getting priorities wrong
What does Holy Priest need at the beginning of the endgame?
Holy wants a balanced package. The spec doesn't work well when you choose pieces just based on total stats. She needs:
- Enough rod for healing to flow
- intellect and throughput that sustain the raid
- solid spell power base
- mana and cast comfort
In WotLK Classic, Holy usually follows a very clear priority of Haste > Intellect > Spell Power > Spirit, with the rest coming in later as refinement.
Itemization base for Holy at the beginning
The focus of the first phase should be:
- Good weapon/trinket
- Enough rod for the kit to sit comfortably
- great slots with real healer profile
- mana that doesn't drop in longer raids
Holy suffers a lot when the build becomes cast-heavy.
Most important stats per phase
Entry
- rod
- intellect
- spell power
Middle of the progression
- maintain good stem
- refine throughput
- sustain better mana
Endgame
- adjust the set without killing the comfort of the kit
The worst choice is to chase raw value and forget that Holy needs to feel fluid.
Order of upgrades with best return
- weapon
- trinkets
- large slots with rod/int/spell power
- Parts Cleaning Assembly
- tier when the bonus is really worth it
Holy doesn’t usually like the “ring, cape, earrings and then I’ll see” route. The biggest impact is on big slots and trinkets.
Common gear mounting pitfalls
1. Too little stem too soon
2. Stacking spirit thinking it solves everything
3. Copy Disc setup
4. Ignore trinkets
5. Buy tier early without thinking about the set
Practical roadmap until stable setup
- close weapon and trinket
- get big healer slots with good profile
- climb the rod until the character is comfortable
- refine intellect/spell power
- only then optimize details
Holy is much better when the gear is set to the pace of the spec, and not just to “have a high stat”.
