Second War #4: The Alliance of Lordaeron

The Alliance of Lordaeron was born from a speech. At the Council of Seven Nations, the human kings argued without getting anywhere, until a young priest and soldier from Lordaeron, Turalyon, spoke. His speech led to a unanimous vote. The Alliance of Lordaeron was created, Anduin Lothar became Supreme Commander and, from the same decision, the Knights of the Silver Hand were born.

Turalyon's speech

Turalyon was a young man from Lordaeron, devoted to the Holy Light. In the middle of the Council's arguments, he spoke of the danger they all faced and of the need to put their differences aside. He was neither a king nor a noble, but he convinced the kings.

The vote was unanimous. Even the kings who had resisted, like Greymane and Perenolde, voted for the union. The Alliance of Lordaeron was formed.

Lothar, Supreme Commander

Anduin Lothar was named Supreme Commander of the Alliance. He had the experience of someone who had already faced the Horde, and the blood of the line of Arathor, which made the elves of Quel'Thalas respect him.

Turalyon was chosen as Lothar's lieutenant. Khadgar also stayed at his side. The three formed the core of the Alliance command.

The Silver Hand

The priests of the Church of the Holy Light, led by Archbishop Alonsus Faol, decided to train warriors who would fight with the Light. That is how the Knights of the Silver Hand, the first paladins, were born. The first of them was Uther the Lightbringer.

The order's name comes from Tyr, the titanic Keeper who lost his hand and replaced it with a fist of silver.

Who joined the Alliance

Besides the seven human kingdoms, the Alliance took in the elves of Quel'Thalas, because of their debt to the line of Thoradin. The Wildhammer dwarves, from the Hinterlands, joined during the war. The dwarves of Ironforge and the gnomes of Gnomeregan only joined after the Alliance liberated Khaz Modan.

What this changes in the story

The Alliance of Lordaeron is the direct origin of the Alliance the player knows in WoW. Many of the peoples who joined it in 1995, such as humans, dwarves, gnomes and, for a time, the elves, still make up the faction today. The high elves leave after the war and only return much later.

The founding of the Silver Hand also has long consequences. Paladins become one of the most iconic classes in Warcraft. Uther teaches Arthas, and the student's fall is one of the greatest tragedies of the franchise. Later, Tirion Fordring and the Argent Crusade inherit the order's legacy in WotLK.

And Turalyon, the young man of the speech, becomes one of the most important heroes in the story: he leads the Alliance after Lothar, crosses the Dark Portal and spends a thousand years fighting the Legion alongside Alleria.
