"Second War" series — Second War #6. The story of Warcraft II, from the exodus of Stormwind to the destruction of the Dark Portal. The episodes are listed in order at the end of the post.
Forming the Alliance was the first step. Making it work was another. In the Council chambers of Lordaeron, Lothar and the commanders discussed how to defend an entire continent against an enemy that could come by land, by sea or from the sky. This episode shows who the heroes of the Alliance were and how each kingdom contributed to the war.
The Alliance command
Anduin Lothar commanded everything, with Turalyon as his lieutenant and Khadgar as the mage who knew the Horde better than anyone. Beside them stood Uther and the paladins of the Silver Hand, the force that answered the Horde's magic.
What each kingdom offered
Each kingdom entered the war with the best it had:
- Kul Tiras put the largest human fleet at the Alliance's disposal, under Admiral Daelin Proudmoore.
- Stromgarde gave elite soldiers, under Thoras Trollbane.
- Dalaran sent the mages of the Kirin Tor.
- Quel'Thalas sent the elven rangers, led by Alleria Windrunner.
- Ironforge and Gnomeregan would join later, once liberated, with weapons, machines and engineering.

Alleria and Turalyon
Alleria Windrunner, the older sister of Sylvanas and Vereesa, was the best ranger in Quel'Thalas. During the war, she and Turalyon grew close, and the romance between them runs through the story all the way to Legion and Midnight.

Tensions from the start
Even united, the Alliance had cracks. The kings argued over who would pay for the war, and some, like Perenolde of Alterac, were not on the side they claimed to be. These cracks will show up later, with serious consequences.
What this changes in the story
The organization of the Alliance explains why it won, despite so many internal problems. Each kingdom brought its best, and Lothar knew how to use each piece in the right place: the Kul Tiras fleet at sea, the paladins against the death knights, the dwarves and gnomes on the war machines.
Many characters from this episode come back in the expansions. Alleria and Turalyon reappear in Legion with the Army of the Light. Khadgar leads the heroes in TBC and in Legion. The Kul Tiras fleet and the Proudmoore family are at the center of Battle for Azeroth.
It is also the start of the rivalries that split the kingdoms after the war: Gilneas against Lordaeron, Stromgarde against Alterac, and Quel'Thalas against the humans, whom the elves blamed for the burning of their forests.
