Why does enchant weigh so much?
Because enchant is one of the character's cheapest and most repeatable upgrades. And in WotLK, many of the important enchants come from:
- reputation
- Enchanting
- Sons of Hodir
- faction head enchants
- specific formulas
Ignoring enchant usually leaves the character “almost ready” for too long.
Priority enchants per slot/role
Head
typically via Northrend's main factions:
- Knights of the Ebon Blade -Kirin Tor -Argent Crusade
Shoulders
usually Sons of Hodir, the great reference for shoulder enchants in WotLK.
Weapon
via Enchanting, with choice varying greatly by role/spec
Chest, bracers, gloves, boots, cape
typically via Enchanting and, in some cases, specific professions
Legs
via profession kits, especially Leatherworking/Tailoring depending on the role
Sources and prerequisites for each
Reputation
The most important part for many fresh 80s characters:
- head enchants
- shoulders
Profession
Enchanting resolves most of the game's slots.
Specific professions
- leg enchants
- some exclusive advantages per profession
Market/AH
It often resolves quickly, as long as you already know which enchant you want
Recommended purchase order
- head
- shoulders
- weapon
- chest/bracers/gloves/boots
- legs
- refinement of the rest
This order works well because it closes the base without spending on the least important detail.
Common prioritization errors
1. Ignore head/shoulder due to laziness of reputation
2. Spending a lot on a small slot and leaving a weapon without an enchant
3. Copy enchant from another spec
4. Wait for final BiS to enchant
5. Not reviewing whether the enchant still makes sense for the gear phase
Checklist of essential enchants
- head with faction enchant
- shoulders with Sons of Hodir or professional equivalent
- enchanted weapon
- great slots with basic enchant right
- legs with appropriate kit
- no important “naked” slot
Minimum recommendation
To get every important enchant in WotLK:
- resolve factions first
- treat weapons as a priority
- Close the base before deluxe
- use the market when it saves time
- stop leaving enchant “for later”
Delayed Enchant is one of the cheapest bottlenecks to fix in the entire expansion.
