•Lore•Brendo Arruda

"Beyond the Dark Portal" series — Beyond the Dark Portal #21. The story of Beyond the Dark Portal, from the internment camps to the end of Draenor. The episodes are listed in order at the end of the post.

Deathwing attacked the heroes, and the battle seemed lost. But Khadgar found the dragon's weak spot: the adamantium plates that held his body together, torn apart by corruption. A spell from Khadgar ripped off the plates, and Deathwing fled back to Azeroth. The Alliance recovered the Skull of Gul'dan.

Deathwing's body

The corruption of the Old Gods had torn Deathwing's body apart. His power was so great that it threatened to split his own body, and that is why he wore adamantium plates, fastened to his skin, to keep everything together.

It is the same armor players see on Deathwing in Cataclysm.

Khadgar's spell

Deathwing attacked the heroes in a rage. Khadgar, instead of attacking the dragon directly, aimed at the plates. His spell tore off part of the adamantium armor, and Deathwing's body began to come apart.

Wounded, Deathwing fled back to Azeroth.

The Skull recovered

With Deathwing gone, Khadgar took the Skull of Gul'dan. The other artifact was still missing: the Book of Medivh, which Ner'zhul had at the Black Temple.

What this changes in the story

The fight between Khadgar and Deathwing is one of the most famous in Beyond the Dark Portal. A human mage managed to make a Dragon Aspect flee, using brains instead of strength.

The adamantium plates are Deathwing's trademark. In Cataclysm he appears with his body covered in them, and in the Dragon Soul raid the heroes rip the plates off his back in mid-flight, before the final fight.

Wounded, Deathwing returns to Azeroth and disappears for years, until he shows up again in Day of the Dragon and, later, in Cataclysm.
