The last artifact was in the hands of the mages. The Eye of Dalaran was guarded by the Kirin Tor, and Ner'zhul needed it. Teron Gorefiend led the attack on the mages to take it. With the Eye, the Horde had everything it needed for Ner'zhul's plan.
The Eye of Dalaran
The Eye of Dalaran was a powerful artifact of the Kirin Tor, the council of mages of Dalaran. It focused magical energy, and Ner'zhul needed it for the Spell of Conjuration.

The attack
In the game campaign, Teron Gorefiend leads the orcs against a mage stronghold on an island, known as Cross Island, to capture the Eye. The death knights and warlocks faced the mages of the Kirin Tor.
The Horde won and took the Eye of Dalaran.
The Horde returns to Draenor
With the artifacts in hand, the orcs headed back to the Portal. Deathwing arrived from Grim Batol with news and helped the Horde break the Alliance siege on the Portal. On the other side, Ner'zhul began preparing the spell.
The Alliance now knew what was at stake, and it decided to go through the Portal.
What this changes in the story
The attack on the mages shows how dangerous the death knights were. The Kirin Tor was the greatest magical force of humanity, and even so the Horde managed to take the Eye of Dalaran.
Dalaran suffers many times in the story of Warcraft. After this attack, the city is destroyed by Archimonde in Warcraft 3, rebuilt and moved to Northrend in WotLK, taken to the Broken Isles in Legion and attacked by Xal'atath in The War Within.
The Kirin Tor, however, always survives. In WotLK, it is the neutral force that coordinates the war against Malygos and the Lich King, from Dalaran.
